Sharing Our Stories - LaVerne

Hi, my name is LaVerne Fitch, I am 63 Years Old. From Masked to UnMasked.

I am here to share my story, High Blood Pressure, Pre-Diabetes, and a Broken Heart. First of all I give all honor to God, for saving me. Life turned upside down, starting from January 1, 2020. I was greeted with a hollow-point bullet, which came through my bedroom ceiling and landed on my Michael Kors bag. Mario which is my deceased husband, came home from church and I told him what happened. He said God is with you always.

Now moving forward to June 6, 2020. I lost Mario, once he came home, sat on the balcony for 45 minutes to have a pre-birthday drink, and then he was gone. At that moment my heart was gone. Grieving and not taking care of myself, led me to high blood pressure and pre-diabetes.

Now moving forward to October 7, 2020, a normal day. I had just left First Baptist Church of Glenarden and, I was coming down Ritchie Marlboro Road. I was driving, and I heard a boom. A truck hit the back of me and then pushed me to the other side of the road. I started freaking out because there goes my car. After I got myself together, I drove home. That was on a Wednesday, I laid around and my head was hurting so bad that, I couldn’t sleep.

Friday, October 9, 2020, was my girlfriend Lisa’s birthday. I asked her to take me to urgent care, and she said of course, I move slowly on my birthday, but I will take you. I went to urgent care and they give me morphine, dilaudid medicine because my head was hurting so bad. After hours of waiting, they decided to do a CAT scan of my head. Then the technician rushed me back to triage and they said Ms. Fitch, “You are bleeding on the brain.” The first thing I asked was, “Am I going to die?” She said no, but we have to get your blood pressure down. In the meantime, my blood pressure was 200/100 something.

They rushed me to Prince Georges County hospital. I made all of my calls before the ambulance came to transport me. I called my daughter and we cried and then I called my sister Debra, she came to the hospital faithfully every day to visit me. Immediately I asked God for forgiveness, because I knew I wanted to live. Once I got to the hospital, God released his health angels to get to work on healing me. They put together a team of doctors to watch over me, so the aneurism would not burst. Now mind you, my mom died of any aneurism in 1985, so the doctors could not believe that I did not have a stroke. Thankfully, I did not have to have surgery. I was in the hospital for five days, and they said, “Ms. Fitch no deficit.” By the grace of God the doctors still say, “You are a walking miracle.” I am so grateful to be alive and fully taking better care of myself. I have overcome PTSD from the accident, and I am now…Living my best life!
